Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shankar is an British and American sitarist. She also sings. She was the first and first female to win the British House of Commons Shield she has had Nine Grammy Awards nominations and was the first musician of Indian origin to play live and to act as a host at the ceremony. Anoushka Shankar is one of the rising stars of India's sitar. She is the daughter of Ravi Shankar and a former student. She was a child who bounded around from London in the UK to New Delhi. At New Delhi, she made her debut at just thirteen years of age. She graduated in 1999 from her high school studies within Encinitas CA. Anouskha, who is only 17 years old, has had an extremely successful recording and performing career. Her father has accompanied her to numerous performances over some time. The singer released Anourag her first album solo in 1998. She released the album Live At Carnegie Hall, a Grammy-nominated album two years later. As she's appeared on every major stage in the world, her stage career has been expansive. Anoushka Shakar's talents are not restricted to just music. Bapi The Love of My Live is her 2002 memoir, that was a tribute Ravi Shankar. She also acted on film in 2003. Her role was as a Bharat natyam dancer in Dance Like a Man. Anoushka Shankar's career continues to grow and we can expect to see a lot from her in the years to come. Anoushka was a frequent traveler and spent lots of her time in London and Delhi during her young years. Later, she moved to California for high school. In Delhi at his 75thbirthday celebration, Anoushka made her debut playing the sitar before the crowd of just four years after her 9-year-old father. Accompanying her father as they toured around the globe, Anoushka was able to accumulate a variety of performances in Carnegie Hall while still in her teens performing at Peter Gabriel's WOMAD festival and making recordings alongside George Harrison. It is the House of Commons Shield was presented an award by the British Parliament for being the top Asian Arts musician. She is the only female and youngest recipient of the prize.
